Neutral Voltage Ratio (NVR) and Earth Tangent Angle (ETA)

Instantaneous Neutral Voltage (Vn) is the Phasor sum of all phase voltages. It is Zero in Three phase three wire system, and Three phase Four wire  Balanced System.

Let us introduce the New Factor namely 'Neutral Voltage Ratio (NVR)' which is the Ratio between the RMS of Neutral Voltage and Sum of All Phase voltage RMSs.

It is approximately equal to the sine of ETA. ETA is the Angular Symmetrical Component represents the zero sequence voltage. Sine of ETA is the ratio between Zero sequence Voltage and SEL Voltage. Zero sequence voltage is 57.735% of Neutral Voltage. SEL Voltage is 1.732 times of the Quadratic Mean of Phase Voltage RMS values. Mean square of Phase Voltages are equal to the square of Average phase voltage and  Square of Standard deviation (Variance) of phase voltages.

Sine of ETA is apparently equal to the NVR defined above after detailed derivation given below. So, ETA will apparently determined as Arc Sine of NVR. Hence, NVR is also called as "SETA (Sine of Earth Tangent Angle)".

Example:

NVR is the ratio between Vectorial sum of all phase voltages and Arithmetic Sum of all Phase Voltages. It is the approximate value of Sine of ETA.

ETA is also determined without sine Function: ETA is nearly equal to the percentage of Zero sequence component to the Total Phase voltage.

Conclusion:

ETA is apparently equal to the 100 times ratio between Zero Sequence Voltage and Total Phase Voltage. The error is very small for smaller neutral voltages.

The Department of Electronic Systems Engineering (ESE), Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is launching a Final Semester Project Internship Programme for final-year B.Tech and M.Tech students, running from 15th January to 15th May, 2026. This programme aims to provide students with early exposure to the serious research culture at IISc by embedding them full-time in an ESE laboratory to work on well-defined research or technology projects. The areas span a broad spectrum of electronics, including quantum technologies and quantum information, semiconductor and nanoelectronic devices, VLSI and hardware systems, healthcare technologies, communications, signal processing, and systems research. Students may use the work carried out during this internship to fulfil their final semester project requirements at their home institutions, subject to institutional norms. Importantly, this opportunity is not restricted to students without an assigned project. Students who already have a final...

Top UPI Apps Dec 2025

Market Share of Top 5 UPI Apps in India – December 2025 The image is an infographic showing the market share of the top five UPI (Unified Payments Interface) apps in India, presented in two donut charts: Value-wise market share Volume-wise market share The data source is NPCI, and the infographic is credited to Entrackr. 1. Value-wise Market Share This chart represents the share based on the total value of transactions. PhonePe: 48.68% (largest share) Google Pay: 34.25% Paytm: 6.32% Others: 9.05% Navi: 1.28% Super.money: 0.42% Key insight: PhonePe dominates UPI transactions by value, accounting for nearly half of all transaction value. 2. Volume-wise Market Share This chart represents the share based on the number of transactions. PhonePe: 45.35% (largest share) Google Pay: 34.64% Paytm: 7.65% Others: 7.89% Navi: 3.14% Super.money: 1.33% Key insight: PhonePe also leads in transaction volume, while Paytm and Navi have a slightly higher share by volume compared to value. 3.
